Labour force can be considered one of the main factors of economic advancement and development. Relying on the capabilities of labour force, the countries are trying to improve their economic conditions. Emphasis and concentration on identifying determinants of supply and demand of labour force in I.R.Iran dates back to the Fifth National Development Plan. In this Plan, the necessity for decreasing unemployment rate at all geographic levels has been emphasized like other Plans. Accordingly, in this study, it has been tried that the conditions of provinces can be recognized by using available basic data on labour force.
Data used in this study are from Labour Force Surveys. For the final results and their analysis, descriptive form and Logit model were used. The results of this Study include two parts: Part one shows that in provinces, which variables at macro level can have an impact on participation rate and unemployment rate in socio-economic sectors. In Part two, provinces are divided in four general categories:
- The provinces in which participation rate is decreasing and employment rate has increased. This feature is just for the Province of Kermanshah.
- The provinces in which participation rate has increased but unemployment rate has decreased. Provinces of North Khorasan, Fars, Mazandaran and Hormozgan have fallen into this category.
- The provinces in which both participation rate and unemployment rate have decreased. This feature is just for the province of Markazi.
- The provinces in which both participation rate and employment rate have increased. The provinces of East Azarbayejan, West Azarbayejan, Ardebil, Esfahan, Bushehr, Tehran, Alborz, Chahrmahal & Bakhtiyari, South Khorasan, Khuzestan, Sistan & Baluchestan, Qom, Kurdestan, Kerman, Golestan and Hamedan have fallen in this category.
