Since the year 1956, the Statistical Centre of Iran has conducted eight national population and housing censuses. During these years, the method of census-taking has been transformed from completely traditional methods (data collection by direct or face-to-face method) into combined or modern methods (combining two or more methods, such as web-based / postal / statistical survey/ register-based / direct visit). All of these censuses, excluding the 2011 and 2016 Censuses, were implemented every 10 years. For the first time in the history of the country's censuses, the 2016 Population and Housing Census was conducted by two methods: face to face interview and web-based method. With respect to the valuable experiences obtained in this Census, the preparation of the technical report on this Census is of great importance.
Accordingly, the Statistical Research and Training Centre has put the preparation of “Technical Report on the 2016 Population and Housing Census” in its working programme based on its mission on the implementation of research projects on data production methods, statistical analysis, data extraction and processing, statistical dissemination and meeting the statistical needs of policy makers and planners. The report is now available to the interested people.
The Technical Report of the 2016 National Population and Housing Census is a compiled collection of all the activities and practices made in this Census including planning, designing, organization, publicity, training and execution stage to data extraction and dissemination. It is worth noting that the preparation of the technical report of the Iranian censuses as a useful tool has started since the 2006 Census. Then, technical reports of the 2011 National Population and Housing Census, and the technical report on the 2016 Census have been prepared and become available to national and international users.
